What is the theme
The theme for the festival 'Surface/Support' is taken from perhaps the last modern art movement from France. The experimental movement named 'Support/Surface', and led by the influential Louis Cane.
After the failure of Situationism and the socio-political May 1968 events in Paris - the Support/Surface artists had to reconsider the function of art; what it should be; what it could be…
Acting almost in direct rebellion to the political scene of the time, they chose the most 'establishment' of artistic mediums to do so; placing painting at the centre of their exploratory practices. However, despite this traditional material choice, they rejected many aspects of 'past art’ to try and find an art suitable for the 1960s/1970s.
Whether they were successful/failed is open to discussion.
“Support/Surface” was the last international avant-garde art movement coming from France and active artists were in touch with the Abstract Expressionists in the USA. Following this period Pop art, neo Dada, Performance, video art, Conceptualism, Postmodernism and so on all took place. These were and/or are all trans-national movements.
The theme is also open to any painting, printing, sculpture, film which emphasises the surface or the medium rather than the content/subject.

Where is the festival
The festival will take place in three main exhibition venues: Casa de la Cultura Agostin de la Hoz and Sala Del Quirofano in the centre of Arrecife, Lanzarote and Boedgas El Grifo in the gorgeous wine region of La Geria. In addition we have events venues at Club La Santa in the coastal village of La Santa and La Cantina in the market town of Teguise.
How much does it cost to apply
It is completely free to apply, the only charge required is to pay for your work to be posted to the festival (if you are not delivering it in person) and also to have your work posted back to you (if you do not sell the piece during the festival)

How can I attend the festival
The festival is completely free to attend (donations are welcome) and a calendar of events is now available here.
Is there funding for artists to attend/perform
Unfortunately there is no funding for artists to attend the festival as this years festival is completely self-funded by The Lacuna Studios team.

Cuál es el tema
El tema del festival 'Surface/Support' está tomado de quizás el último movimiento de arte moderno de Francia. El movimiento experimental llamado 'Support/Surface', y liderado por el influyente Louis Cane.
Tras el fracaso del situacionismo y los eventos sociopolíticos de mayo de 1968 en París, los artistas de Support/Surface tuvieron que reconsiderar la función del arte; lo que debería ser lo que podría ser ...
Actuando casi en rebelión directa a la escena política de la época, eligieron la mayoría del "establecimiento" de los medios artísticos para hacerlo; Colocando la pintura en el centro de sus prácticas exploratorias. Sin embargo, a pesar de esta elección de material tradicional, rechazaron muchos aspectos del "arte pasado" para tratar de encontrar un arte adecuado para los años 60 y 70.
Si fueron exitosos / fracasados está abierto a discusión.
'Support/Surface' fue el último movimiento internacional de arte de vanguardia proveniente de Francia y los artistas activos estuvieron en contacto con los expresionistas abstractos en los Estados Unidos. Después de este período, tuvieron lugar el arte pop, el neo Dada, la performance, el videoarte, el conceptualismo, el posmodernismo, etc. Estos fueron y / o son todos movimientos transnacionales.
El tema también está abierto a cualquier pintura, impresión, escultura, película que enfatice la superficie o el medio en lugar del contenido o el tema.

El festival será a partir del 26 de julio a 16 de agosto.
Donde esta el festival
El festival se llevará a cabo en tres lugares principales de exhibición: Casa de la Cultura Agostín de la Hoz y Sala del Quirofano en el centro de Arrecife, Lanzarote y Boedgas El Grifo en la hermosa región vinícola de La Geria. Además, tenemos lugares para eventos en el Club La Santa en el pueblo costero de La Santa y La Cantina en la ciudad comercial de Teguise.
Cuánto cuesta aplicar
La solicitud es completamente gratuita, el único cargo requerido es pagar su trabajo para que se publique en el festival (si no lo entrega personalmente) y también para que le devuelvan su trabajo (si no vende el pieza durante el festival)
Cómo me inscribo
Las solicitudes para el Festival de Arte de Lanzarote 2019 ya están cerradas. Gracias a todos los artistas por postularse.

Cómo puedo asistir al festival
El festival es totalmente gratuito (las donaciones son bienvenidas) y un calendario de eventos está disponible aquí.
Hay financiación para artistas para asistir / realizar
Desafortunadamente, no hay fondos para que los artistas asistan al festival, ya que el festival de este año es completamente autofinanciado por el equipo de The Lacuna Studios.
