Who can apply?
Anyone who is an Artist in the broadest sense of the term. For example; visual artists, painters, drawers, sculptors, printmakers, mixed media artists, videoartists, poets, creative writers, storytellers, performance artists, street artists, musicians, puppeteers, designers, makers and so on.
¿Quién puede aplicar?
Cualquier persona que sea un artista en el sentido más amplio del término. Por ejemplo; artistas visuales: pintores, dibujantes, escultores, grabadores, artistas de medios mixtos, videoartistas, poetas, escritores creativos, narradores, artistas de performance, artistas callejeros, músicos, titiriteros, diseñadores, creadores, etc.

Background
2019 is the
inaugural year of the Lanzarote Arts Festival (LAF), hosted by The Lacuna
Studios in conjunction with the Larroque Arts Festival, France. The Larroque
Arts Festival started in 2010, emerging from a series of international student
engagement projects led by Prof. Kenneth G. Hay (University of Leeds) and Doc.
Mgr. Josef Danek (University of Ostrava). Since the first festival in 2010, it
has grown bigger and more varied; often with exhibiting artists from over 30
countries each year. In addition, artists from c. 20 countries visit the
festival in person to create work, meet local artists and take part in a full
schedule of events.
The goals of the Larroque Arts Festival are; To maintain the highest quality artistic standards; To promote contemporary art in a rural environment; To promote an inclusive exhibition space and help artists and the community. The Lanzarote Arts Festival’s aim is to engage in a didactic and cross-fertilising project with the Larroque Arts Festival by working with a similar set of goals to help facilitate contemporary artists from around the world to exhibit in Lanzarote.
We hope; To introduce quality contemporary (and sometimes challenging) art to isolated communities who have limited access to Arts & Culture; To offer something local/translocal for both resident and visiting artists through stimulating local culture and creatives; To enlarge networks and provide a base/point of contact for the exchange and sharing of ideas.
The Lacuna Studios are thankful for this fantastic opportunity to work alongside the Larroque Arts Festival to deliver the first ever Lanzarote Arts Festival in Summer 2019.

2019 es el año inaugural del Festival de Arte de Lanzarote (LAF), organizado por The Lacuna Studios junto con el Festival de Arte de Larroque, Francia. El Festival de Arte de Larroque comenzó en 2010, surgiendo de una serie de proyectos internacionales de participación estudiantil liderados por el Prof. Kenneth G. Hay (Universidad de Leeds) y el Doc. Monseñor. Josef Danek (Universidad de Ostrava). Desde el primer festival en 2010, ha crecido más y más variado; A menudo con expositores de más de 30 países cada año. Además, los artistas de c. 20 países visitan el festival en persona para crear trabajos, conocer artistas locales y participar en un calendario completo de eventos.
Los objetivos del Festival de las Artes de Larroque son; Mantener los más altos estándares artísticos de calidad. Promover el arte contemporáneo en un entorno rural. Promover un espacio expositivo inclusivo y ayudar a los artistas y la comunidad. El objetivo del Festival de Arte de Lanzarote es participar en un proyecto didáctico y de fertilización cruzada con el Festival de Arte de Larroque, trabajando con un conjunto similar de objetivos para ayudar a los artistas contemporáneos de todo el mundo a exhibir en Lanzarote.
Esperamos; Para introducir arte contemporáneo de calidad (y en ocasiones desafiante) a comunidades aisladas que tienen acceso limitado a Arts & Culture; Para ofrecer algo local / translocal para artistas residentes y visitantes a través de la cultura local y los creativos estimulantes; Ampliar las redes y proporcionar una base / punto de contacto para el intercambio y el intercambio de ideas.

Theme: Surface/Support
The theme "Surface/Support” is taken from perhaps the last modern art movement from France. The experimental movement named “Support/Surface,” and led by the influential Louis Cane.
After the failure of Situationism and the socio-political May 1968 events in Paris - the Support/Surface artists had to reconsider the function of art; what it should be; what it could be…
Acting almost in direct rebellion to the political scene of the time, they chose the most 'establishment' of artistic mediums to do so; placing painting at the centre of their exploratory practices. However, despite this traditional material choice, they rejected many aspects of 'past art’ to try and find an art suitable for the 1960s/1970s.
Whether they were successful/failed is open to discussion.
“Support/Surface” was the last international avant-garde art movement coming from France and active artists were in touch with the Abstract Expressionists in the USA. Following this period Pop art, neo Dada, Performance, video art, Conceptualism, Postmodernism and so on all took place. These were and/or are all trans-national movements.
The theme is also open to any painting, printing, sculpture, film which emphasises the surface or the medium rather than the content/subject.

El tema "Superficie / Soporte" está tomado del último movimiento artístico moderno de Francia. El movimiento experimental llamado "Soporte / Superficie", y dirigido por el influyente Louis Cane.
Tras el fracaso del situacionismo y los acontecimientos sociopolíticos de mayo de 1968 en París, los artistas de Support / Surface tuvieron que reconsiderar la función del arte; lo que debería ser lo que podría ser ...
Actuando casi en directa rebelión a la escena política de la época, eligieron la mayoría del "establecimiento" de los medios artísticos para hacerlo; Colocando la pintura en el centro de sus prácticas exploratorias. Sin embargo, a pesar de esta elección de material tradicional, rechazaron muchos aspectos del "arte pasado" para tratar de encontrar un arte adecuado para los años 60 y 70.

“Support / Surface” fue el último movimiento internacional de arte de vanguardia proveniente de Francia y los artistas activos estuvieron en contacto con los expresionistas abstractos en los Estados Unidos. Después de este período, tuvieron lugar el arte pop, el neo Dada, la performance, el videoarte, el conceptualismo, el posmodernismo, etc. Estos fueron y / o son todos movimientos transnacionales.
