Our Schedule

The Lacuna Studios will be open for visiting artists in 2026 - watch this space for further announcements.

When we are ready, the residency will be available all year around to take advantages of the distinct, and sometimes rather extreme changes, in the seasons here in Southern Spain. From torrential rain and rumbling thunder to searing sunshine and baked earth, every seasons brings something new to the grove and so every time you come it will be different.

In Spring the grove needs pruning and, if the rains come, it springs to life growing lush and wild with an abundance of edible leaves and wild flowers. The Almond trees blossom pink in early February and the Nispero trees fruit small golden orange orbs in May.

In Summer the intense heat and dry winds bake the ground, scorching the cover crops, hardening the soil and leaving a field of burnt sienna and ochre. Water can be restricted, particularly during periods of drought but don't worry we are less than an hour away from the coastline so it is easy to cool off!

In Autumn the olives grow fatter getting ready for picking and the persimmon trees fruit abundantly. The intense heat of summer starts to fade away leaving refreshingly cooler mornings and evenings. Be prepared to see locals in puffer jackets when you arrive in shorts!

In Winter, don't be fooled, it can get cold here - we are only 90mins away from the local ski resort. Even on those chilly Winter days though, most days, there is still blue sky and sunshine. Winter is the harvest time for the olives which have to be picked by hand, all 500 trees!
